“What does music look like?”

This was the question photographer Martin Klimas was attempting to answer with his new photo series. These images were created by covering speakers with paint before blasting music through the speakers. The vibrations from the music caused the paint to launch into the air creating these stunning paint sculptures that he then captured on camera.

A 5th grade teacher was teaching her students a lesson. Instead of using the books that were given to her for her intervention reading class (which were for 2nd graders) for the lesson, she decided to use the lyrics of a song (pic) and asked her student to tell her what where the three word the artist was referring. Many of the students wrote “I love you” or “I miss you” all except one student that wrote “I am sorry” the teacher asked him what made him say that, the student said “I am sorry, because I never said that to my mother and I feel that is why she left me” the teacher then remembered that this brilliant kid was being raised by his grandmother because his mother was not capable to raise him.

The thing about music is that one simple lyric can mean so many things depending on what is going in the life of the person that is listening to it. Music also can teach kids that just because a majority sees it one way, it doesn’t mean it’s right and it’s ok to see things differently.

This teacher has won numerous awards, has a masters degree and many of her students have won national awards. Before I forget these student are mostly all coming from low income homes and single parents. So if this one teacher can use music to teach her students to shine, students that in most cases would be disregarded. Why can’t we continue to have music taught in schools?

Last thing Im very proud to say that the teacher in this story is my wife.
